American Lung Association of Ohio

The American Lung Association has lead the fight to prevent lung disease and promote lung health for over 100 years. ALA supports research, education, and advocacy to work towards their mission of prevention and control of all lung diseases. ALA supports clean indoor air legislation. In partnership with The Cleveland Clinic Health System and the American Lung Association of Ohio, the Word Of Mouth program was developed. This tobacco prevention program is designed to encourage children and adolescents from using tobacco and becoming addicted to nicotine. This program is taught in Hamilton County Schools to grades 4 to 8. Youth are most at risk for tobacco use at these ages. Techniques such as increasing their knowledge on the effects of tobacco and improving their refusal skills help WOM to reach their goal of preventing the initiation of tobacco use in youth. Utilizing both traditional classroom and Web-based education, WOM addresses the need for a comprehensive, community-based tobacco prevention program.
