Cincinnati Health Department
 
The Cincinnati Health Department provides many services in the community. They are responsible for the promotion, protection, and maintenance of the public's health.
 
The Cincinnati Health Department has three departments providing tobacco cessation/prevention: Primary Care, WIC, and Health Promotion Program under Community Health. Each department serves high risk low income neighborhoods. Under Primary Care are the Medical Centers, Adult Home Health, and School Health. Under Health Promotion Program is the Cardiovascular Health (CVH) Grant whose goal is to reduce cardiovascular disease in Hamilton County. WIC focuses on the health of women and their children (preschool age and younger).

  1. Prevent youth from using tobacco through School Health Services and CVH grant
  2. Reduce youth tobacco use through School Health Services and CVH grant
  3. Reduce the use of tobacco by youth, minority and regional populations, and others who may be disproportionately affected by the use of tobacco through School Health services, Cincinnati Health Department Medical Centers, Home Health and CVH Grant.
  4. Reduce tobacco use among pregnant women through programs provided by ASH dollars used with Every Child Succeeds Program, MCH postpartum teaching, Medical centers prenatal and postnatal teaching, and WIC counseling
  5. Reduce exposure to environmental (second hand) tobacco smoke through programs provided by ASH dollars through Every Child Succeeds, MCH postpartum teaching, Medical centers prenatal and postnatal teaching, WIC counseling on second hand smoke for nonsmoking WIC clients, CVH Grant staff and Environmental Staff served on Smoking Advisory Council, Environmental Staff inspection of restaurants adherence of tobacco regulations,
  6. Reduce adult tobacco use through patient education provided by Adult Home Health Care and Medical Centers, patient education materials provided by the CVH Grant  for Cincinnati Health Dept Medical Centers, and trainings for medical and nursing staff  provided by CVH Grant to increase patient education to reduce risk of CVD and strokes.
  7. Reduce smokeless tobacco use among youth and adults through patient and student education by School Health, CHD Medical Centers, and CHD Dental services .
